Nashville S.A.F.E. is a public-private initiative designed to develop and implement sound business practices, and also provide continuing education to restaurant owners, managers, and employees. Nashville S.A.F.E. is led by attorney Steve Meisner, a civil litigation attorney with vast experience representing some of the most well-known establishments in Tennessee, including Tootsies Orchid Lounge, Honk Tonk Central, Tin Roof, Coyote Ugly, Dan McGuinness, and many others. Over the course of the last five years, Mr. Meisner has worked closely with the Metro-Nashville Police Department, the Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission, security experts and selected insurance professionals to develop standard policies and procedure with the two-fold aim of certifying the safety of patrons visiting Nashville’s entertainment district and also to protect business owners from liability.
So why now? With the completion of the new Nashville Convention Center just south of Broadway, coupled with the soaring popularity of the hit show “Nashville,” the Music City has solidified itself as a premier destination for both business travelers and music lovers alike. Rolling Stone Magazine, Trip Advisor, Forbes Magazine, and many other neutral observers have listed Nashville as top destination for live music and night life. Nashville was named No. 3 on the list of Forbes’ “Next Big Boom Towns,” and in a recent article published by the New York Time entitled “Nashville’s Latest Big Hit Could Be the City Itself,” Nashville was described as the new “it” city in the United States. With this new success comes responsibility to develop and maintain Nashville’s reputation as a safe city for visitors and their families. Now is the time to implement sound practices to ensure that Nashville’s standing as a premier destination is not tarnished by mismanaged businesses.
Nashville S.A.F.E. is designed to be a “win-win” for all participating members. Participating owners will enjoy unique benefits, such as lower insurance premiums, sound policies and practices in the four major areas of liability, as well as annual training of managers, bartenders and security staff. Participating insurance professionals and underwriters will be given unique access to a growing community of restaurants and bars. Lastly, the Nashville community as a whole will benefit from the increase in growth and popularity of a safe entertainment district in the heart Music City.
